4 Red Lipsticks That I Wear Over And Over Again

I'm always buying new make-up, nearly as much as I buy new clothes. Popping into town and perusing the new launches is like a hobby in itself, but one which is quite damaging to my bank balance! If you're like me, you'll find yourself surrounded with all of these lovely products, yet only turn to a select few on a regular basis. Red lipstick is one of those classic beauty products that everyone has; it makes you feel instantly glamourous and looks incredibly sophisticated. These four beauties are the red lipsticks I find myself using time and time again- they are reliable, amazing quality and simply the best in my mahoosive collection, to the point where I rarely use any other red lippies!

Clinique Pop Lip Colour & Primer in 'Cherry Pop'

This is probably my ultimate red lipstick. Obtained as a freebie in Glamour magazine, this lipstick has been a staple in my make-up bag ever since. It has subtle blue undertones, meaning it's a great tone for paler skins. I often struggle finding tones to suit me, but everything about Cherry Pop is absolutely perfect. The priming element also ensures this lipstick stays on for a decent amount of time- longer than most lipsticks I own. Probably not for you if you prefer mattes, this slight sheen provides the perfect amount of glossiness whilst being extremely comfortable to wear.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 'Standout'

I reviewed these a while back and still love them to this very day. The handy crayon allows for a super-easy and precise application of the most incredible shot of colour I've seen in a lipstick. While Revlon deem this to be a matte lipstick, the triple butter complex gives this lip product a really subtle sheen to aid comfort in wearing and also prevent any flaking you may see from many mattes. It's like a perfect in-between formula; neither totally matte, nor totally glossy. This combination makes for a product that provides beautiful results; a really bright red (again, blue undertones) that lasts forever, and when it does fade, it fades evenly.

Kiko Velvet Mat Satin Lipstick in 'Passion Red'

Hurrah to Kiko for consistently providing us with fab quality and totally affordable beauty products! Their lipsticks are no different, and their velvet mat satin range is simply beautiful. Not only is the packaging sleek, modern and eye-catching, but the little red bullet inside is equally fabulous. The striking red is actually a fairly similar shade to Clinique's 'Cherry Pop', just at a much lower price-point. Again, while it claims to be a matte, it's sheen enough to sit comfortably on your lips and doesn't flake or dry out at all. It doesn't seem to last as long as the previous two, but I find it's a great alternative that I find myself reaching for regularly.

YSL Glossy Stain in shade 301

Part of the colour extension of their best-selling glossy stain range, YSL have created a firm favourite in this gorgeous red lip stain. The bright red has more coral tones than the other lipsticks mentioned in this post, but these hues make the lipstick a winner for Spring/Summer and still cements its place as a classic red. A lipstick, gloss and stain all in one, the slightly shimmery formula creates a glossy red lip which stays on all day. It doesn't budge at all. Although it needs a couple of layers to build up opacity due to the thin, watery texture, this consistency means it's so lightweight when on your lips. Definitely a classic product you can pop on and not worry about all day.

  1. I love the Revlon Matte Balms! I actually got rid of my Standout a while back because I bought Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red and decided I didn't really need two matte true reds, but I still have 2 of the other Matte Balms. Besides my CT red, I have a shiny Clarins one from the Rouge Prodige line, and the Revlon Balm Stain in Romantic, which is a sheer warm red that is beautiful. It looks a lot like that YSL Glossy Stain, actually. NARS Cruella is a favourite for a deeper red. Honestly, I probably have too many reds, if that's even possible. Hahaha.

    1. You can never have too many reds, it's not a thing!

  2. I love the colour of the Revlon Colorburst. I only have one red lipstick in my make-up collection and that is one of the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks. I've never felt too confident wearing a red lipstick. I usually go for peaches and pinks when it comes to my lips x

  3. If I'm going to wear a red, I tend to go for a slightly darker one like MAC Russian Red, the NARS matte lip pencil in Cruella or Rimmel 107. I never feel quite as confident in a red as I'd like to, though. I occasionally go for a statement lip but I'm more of a smokey eye nude lip girl at heart.
