My Weekend: Superdrug Haul!

If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that I was more than excited to spend my Sunday in Superdrug, spending all my money on any beauty product that particularly caught my eye. I actually ended up spending a lot less than anticipated, partly because I stuck to 'budget' products, but mainly because Superdrug have an incredible 3 for 2 offer on at the moment.

As many of the things I went in for were out of stock (namely the Accessorize Shimmer Block highlighter), I stuck to the 6 products. Within the 3 for 2 offer, you get the cheapest of the 3 free, so it's well worth trotting down there and stocking up on any of your beauty favourites. If you're a student, Superdrug also do 10% off when a valid NUS card is shown; another reason to splash you cash!

Here are the things I picked up:

Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 01 Transparent. I have bought this before after I heard almost every blogger out there raving about it. It is preeeetttyy good. It's a beautifully light powder which sets your make up and lasts a very decent amount of time. There are so many shades to choose from and it only costs £3.99! Bargain!

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Liquid Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. Another beauty buy which I have previously purchased. This is the best shampoo and conditioner set I have ever used, with Garnier Ultimate Blends being a close second (review coming soon). I dye my hair dark brown, but it starts to fade after two or three weeks. When this awkward fading starts, the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette hair set not only gives me a brilliantly glossy barnet, but also evens out some of the lost colour. A shampoo which reduces the prominence of your roots? Yus please! And even better, it's 2 for £8 in Superdrug at the moment!

Collection Bronze Glow. I didn't own a bronzer. I have always preferred the look of blusher on my skin instead. I can't remember how much this was, but I think it was only a couple of quid. Seeing as I'm a huge fan of some of Collection's other beauty bargains, I thought this would be a safe bet to start me on my bronzer journey! I have tried this once, but didn't find it very pigmented; it barely showed up on my skin. Not quite the tanned goddess look I was hoping for!

NYC White Nail Varnish. Again, if you follow me on Twitter, you would've seen my disappointment at this! I bought an NYC varnish last year and it was fabulous quality for the price, so I thought I'd repurchase. White varnish is perfect for bringing out any slight hint of tan, so I thought I'd buy this one ready for summer. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. The formula was incredibly runny and took forever to dry; it took no less that 5 coats to reach full opacity! I won't be doing a full review of this!

2True Nail Varnish in Mila. I love 2True! Exclusive to Superdrug, I find their nail varnishes fantastic value. I spotted this bright orange shade, and like the white NYC varnish, thought this would be great to emphasise that summer tan. The bottles have had a re-vamp too! The brand looks really sleek; the design reminds me a lot of the Barry M Gelly varnish collection. I'm very excited to try this out!

MUA Lip Liner. This is my first lip liner *cue gasps*. Recently I've been going for more of a natural lip so haven't needed a good lip liner to hold the colour. This MUA buy was only £1, so I thought it'd be a good starting point. I absolutely love their eyeliners, so hopefully this one will live up to my expectations too!

Rimmel Apocalips in Aurora. I've been eyeing this beauty up for a while now, but finally took the plunge this weekend. After swatching a few that I quite fancied (Nova, Lunar and Stellar to name a few), I finally went for Aurora. It's a beautiful bright pink with some red hues, perfect for a bright summer lip! I've already tried it out; it has the consistency of a thick (but not sticky) lipgloss, but the staying power of a good lipstick. I'm in love!

I also picked up a couple of foundation samples from Chanel and Clinique which I will be trying out over the coming weeks. I can predict here and now that I will probably end up buying both. Stay tuned for reviews!

  3. Looking at this is pretty much exactly the same as looking at my own superdrug purchases haha! Great minds think alike huh?!
Totally agree with the John Frieda, although obviously I buy the blonde version! I love being blonde but when my roots come through its a nightmare - but the Shampoo and Conditioner totally helps to even out! :)

  4. Bronzers are generally not my thing either, but I'm recently starting to dabble in it because it's SUMMER :D (I just stipple some near my ear/at the ends of my cheekbones, and that's kinda nice). I've still yet to try one of the Apocalips...sad tingz
