Being Touristy: London Dungeons and Madame Tussauds

The other week, myself and two of my housemates ventured into London (with a massive hangover) for a fun tourist day out. Having got home from a Halloween night out at 2:30am, we rose to the beeping, and subsequent smashing, of our alarms at 6:30am. The sun was up, the coffee was poured, and we staggered out of the house to get an early train to the big city.

Although I usually live quite near to London, somehow I have just never gotten around to doing all the touristy, sight-seeing adventures that everyone is told they need to tick off their list. What more perfect an opportunity, we thought, than to take a break from studying and have a bit of fun.

We managed to get a joint ticket for London Dungeons and Madame Tussaud's surprisingly cheap (another factor in our decision to go), so ended up visiting both attractions for only £35. Being a history student/nerd/enthusiast, I've always wanted to see the dungeons. Perhaps going in a delicate, hungover state wasn't the best choice I had ever made.

Little did I know, the London Dungeon experience is totally interactive, so guess who was the first of a huge group of kids to be picked on? Yeah, me. I later embarrassingly discovered how much of a wimp I was compared to 20 odd 8 year old kids. My housemate, Aarun, was targeted later on, while Jenny hid at almost every opportunity. (She had the right idea).

The London Dungeons were so much fun, and it's a great place to go if you have kids who love a gory tale and aren't afraid of anything. There's even a drop ride at the end if you're feeling brave enough! After we grabbed some food we headed to our next destination, Madame Tussaud's.

I had been to infamous waxwork house once before when I was much younger, and seeing as I couldn't remember much, was so excited to pose with some of my favourite celebs. Some are creepily life-like to the point where you really do have to do a double take, whereas others are quite crap. Unfortunately, Beyonce was one of the crap ones, *sobs whilst listening to Drunk In Love on repeat*.

All in all, it was so much fun wondering around and marvelling at the works of art, trying to replicate our best pose next to them. The only huge negative is that there is a whole section dedicated to One Direction. Whoever made this happen needs to be shot some stern talkings to.

With some time spare, we headed to the Tower of London to see the magnificent war memorial. Honestly, photographs don't do it justice. It was utterly breath-taking, and a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives in World War One, and other wars since.

What's your favourite tourist attraction in London?
