Last Friday I had a bit of a panic over Christmas. Until now, I have refused to think about the festive period (mainly because everyone starts the celebrations so early...Christmas cards were out in JULY!), but after hearing people mentioning the fact that they were pretty much done with their gift shopping for this year, I started thinking that I needed to get on the case. Cue huge splurge over the weekend. As we're sneaking up on the 1st December this week, I thought that it is acceptable to start writing about Christmas on the blog, so what better way to kick things off than with these Bomb Cosmetics goodies. Beauty advent calendars can be quite extortionate, but if you didn't manage to snap one up in the Black Friday madness, then there are still options out there without having to spend a small fortune...this is one of them!
I've often looked at a few different beauty advent calendars, but have been reluctant to try any from just one brand as I'm just not loyal enough to any to warrant spending that much on products I'll probably never end up using. Those offering a variety of brands and products are a bit more up my street, but although it technically is 'good value for money' (especially if you want to try out some new beauty bits and bobs), spending up to a hundred pounds just isn't something I can afford. However, when you come across an advent calendar packed with bath bombs and funky soaps for under £20, that's a bit more justifiable!
This calendar from Bomb Cosmetics is a cute little gift for beauty lovers (or yourself, in my case) in the run up to Christmas. As soon as the box arrived and I opened up the cardboard, I could smell the goods inside even through all the bubble wrap...and of course for the purpose of reviewing I just had to open it and test it out a few days early. Within this bargain 24 day advent calendar you get a mixture of 12 soaps and 12 bath bombs; a different scent each day. I don't quite know what I'm going to do with all the miniatures (each bath bomb is too small for one bath, and I'm sure I'll work my way through the soaps eventually), but I think it's more about the gift element than the practicality of the contents.
As a huge bath bomb fan (the bubble Lush ones are a weak point of mine), I was really surprised that I found the mini soaps the star of the show. They both smell equally lovely, but the soaps are a bit more special. They are literally miniatures of the real deal, even down to the smallest details, whilst the bath bombs are plain coloured and simple heart shapes- the only thing that differs with each door is the fragrance. Although this isn't an issue (I completely understand that space within the calendar can be a dilemma), I guess I expected something a bit more visually inviting. But for an advent calendar that costs £19.99 (although it is currently down to £14.99 on FindMeAGift...bargain alert!) it is still a totally affordable and fun treat. The scents are powerful and there is plenty of variety (the lavender one is one of my faves) so you do get quite good value for what you are paying.
If the mini heart bath bombs aren't quite enough for you, Bomb Cosmetics also do Christmas crackers which boast a trio of their full sized festive bath bombs for £9.99. Now we're talking! Although the one featured from FindMeAGift is currently out of stock, they seem to be a couple of quid cheaper on the brand's own website, so if you're doing a bit of a bath bomb haul, it may be worth checking their website for this particular gift. They make such an easy present for any female friends or relatives as who doesn't love a good relaxing soak in the bath?! The Christmas designs are so cute and the fact that they come packaged in a cracker (complete with tinsel ties) makes them an awesome present which requires minimal effort. I featured them in my stocking filler gift post last year and I still love them just as much 12 months later.
Have you picked up a beauty advent calendar this year? What other beauty gifts have you spotted this year?
This post features press samples, however all opinions are my own.
