I've written quite a lot on this blog about products I've tried and tested to help with my dry skin flare-ups. My dry skin isn't really bad, but it's enough to make my skin look flaky and not let foundation sit right. For no make-up days, it is manageable, but I rarely have one of those; wearing a touch of foundation or concealer just makes me feel better about myself (and covers my blotchiness). Seeing foundation clinging to any dry patches and emphasising the flakiness- no matter how much you look after your skin prior to application- is so frustrating and disheartening. In the few years I've been having these break-outs, there's one thing which I've found really helps...face oils.
It's clear that a hydrating skin-care routine is key to overcoming mild dry skin issues, and whilst putting in that extra effort was helping, it still wasn't enough to fully get my skin back to normal. Swapping to a nourishing balm cleanser, hydrating essences and serums, nourishing overnight creams and non-drying primers didn't seem to quite go far enough. I didn't know what I was doing wrong. Then I used a face oil as an overnight treatment one evening and the next morning, the transformation in my skin was unbelievable.
Whether you use them on their own as an overnight treatment or mix a couple of drops in with your regular moisturiser, the difference it makes to your skin is second to none. I truly believe that incorporating a face oil into my skin care routine has made the biggest difference to nourishing my skin during dry flare-ups. They have great moisturising properties and there are a large number of them out there to find one which suits your needs. The Body Shop's Vitamin E serum-in-oil (full review here) is a lighter, watery formula that soaks in quickly and doesn't leave your skin feeling as greasy as other heavier oils might. Whilst it is marketed as an overnight treatment, during particularly bad spells I use a drop of this in the morning to pep up my skin- the lightness of the formula means it sits comfortably under any makeup.
I adore the Aroma Actives face oil as an overnight moisture surge; it's slightly thicker but leaves my skin feeling and looking healthy and radiant when I wake up. Using a face oil feels like a pamper too; many have gorgeous, relaxing scents which make them perfect for massaging into skin before bed-time, helping you to unwind and de-stress at the end of the day. Like many others, this product is packed full of Omega- a fatty acid which regulates your natural oil production and in turn help to stabilise the nourishment levels of your skin. You only need a couple of drops to cover your face, so a little bottle will last you forever! My skin feels nourished, my complexion seems more even and radiant and my dry patches are eased through adding a face oil into my skin-care routine. If you suffer from dry skin too, I'd 100% recommend trying one!
Do you use face oils? Which ones are your favourites?
Have you ever read Caroline Hirons blog? I must admit it baffled the heck out of me initially, but I've now found a morning and night routine - body shop chamomile oil cleanser, pixi glow tonic toner, hylamide eye cream, body shop nutriganics serum, body shop vitamin e cream. Doing this has massively hydrated my skin, and I've just started to notice a more even skin tone x
ReplyDeleteYes I have, it's great when you find products that work for you! I'm currently trying out some Kiehl's products and they are absolutely amazing...my skin feels far less dry now x

ReplyDeleteI'm currently wearing Boiotherms's 'Liquid Glow' and even if my skin is today neither dry nor oily, in the past it used to be an oil factory. Even so this oil has made wonders for my skin.
