Better Than Batiste? Herbal Essences Clearly Naked Dry Shampoo

For ages, Batiste had been the only brand of dry shampoo I have ever used. Its extensive range has achieved somewhat a cult status in the beauty world, being the first real brand to capitalise on this innovative new market. Nowadays, I honestly don't know what I would do without dry shampoo in my life. It's such a handy product to have and saves me so much time in the morning; a spritz of dry shampoo injects a bit of life into my limp bed hair, freshens it up, and can create the perfect amount of volume for a day or evening look. It has so many uses, so it's no wonder that oodles of beauty brands have ventured into this market, creating their own versions of shampoo in a can. After trying this Herbal Essences range, it has made me realised that perhaps Batiste aren't that great after all.

Herbal Essences Clearly Naked is genuinely one of the best dry shampoos I have ever tried. Despite the unsettlingly sexualised name (see LBQ's post), this dry shampoo possesses the most lightweight formula to help lift slightly greasy hair into soft 'freshly-washed' locks. This dry shampoo is paraben-free (a series of compounds which can influence hormone levels), giving you the option to choose which chemicals and ingredients you put on your hair. While some hair products do use paraben with no real negative effects, it is great to have a range of products which allows you to choose a more natural beauty collection.

After reading loads of negative reviews on the Superdrug website, I am shocked to hear so many people have strongly disliked the formula, calling it sticky, liquidy and that it "smells like cheese" (LOLZ). I have been using this product for a couple of weeks, and have had none of these unfortunate effects. The dry shampoo, for me, has no scent, adding to its 'naked' appeal, while the natural tapioca helps to absorb any excess oils in your hair to leave it feeling really light and fresh.

Clearly Naked is an absolute pleasure to use, and while it is recommended to shake before use, I have often ignored these instructions (as everyone does) and found no liquid within the formula when sprayed onto my hair. Unlike many of the Batiste dry shampoos, Herbal Essences leaves you with no annoying white specks you don't often realise you have on the back of your head until you leave the house. The effortlessly light formula barely even needs brushing out to get locks looking full of life- just a quick massage into the roots of the hair and you're good to go.

While it isn't as volumising as other dry shampoos, it is certainly one of the best for banishing that greasy look and adding a bit of pizzazz to your barnet. For £3, it's an amazing little product to chuck into your handbag for on-the-go hair revivals.

What's your go-to dry shampoo?

  3. Batiste was the first dry shampoo I ever bought (was so excited when I finally saw it on the shelves of my local drugstore) and though I liked it at the time, I've moved on :(
I've tried Herbal Essences' version (I have the orange one--'body envy') and it is probably the worst dry shamp I've ever tried, L O L. It leaves the grossest matte residue in my hair, and I don't know if it's just that line or if the 'clearly naked' formula is different, but the orange can is just the worst.

But yeah, I LOVE DRY SHAMPOO. I've probably tried about 5/6-ish cans by now, and they always save my lazy a$$ from washing my hair. 5ever indebted to the genius behind the idea.

    1. I feel ya! Such a shame about the orange one. Maybe the fact that 'clearly naked' has a different, more natural formula helps? I personally really love it!
