The Top 5 Affordable Dry Shampoos To Try Out

When dry shampoo first entered our worlds, we were mainly limited to different scents of the much-loved Batiste formula. There wasn't much choice and the textures were chalky. Since then, our hair care horizons have been considerably expanded, with many brands offering their own dry shampoos and old classics reformulating to be better than ever. Now stuck in the opposite situation, how do we know which dry shampoos are actually doing what the say on the can when there is such a huge selection to choose from? Reviews.com have scoured many reviews to whittle down a whopping 54 recommended dry shampoos to a concise 5, focusing on scent, chalkiness, price and whether it worked on the first application. Dry shampoos have become such a huge part of our regular beauty routines, so it's nice to have a starting point on where to look for ones you can actually trust to do the job well. So, here are the finalists...

1. Klorane Dry Shampoo (With Oat Milk) (£6 on lookfantasic)

This dry shampoo came out on top and it's no surprise why. While the packaging is pretty simple and unspectacular, it's no wonder why it's a firm favourite amongst beauty bloggers and journalists (and celebs like Kate Moss). The formula is gentle, fine and contains a "unique combination of plant-based ingredients" which ensure that grease is absorbed quickly, leaving no residue or chalkiness behind. It's completely invisible when dry and leaves hair feeling freshly-washed and volumised. There's a reason this little wonder-can is a best-seller...and it's cheap as chips!

2. Batiste Dry Shampoo Original (£4.99)

There's a reason these old favourites have become classics that we keep turning to. Batiste are great at producing dry shampoos we can rely on, and their reign in the hair-care world is here to stay. The iconic blue and yellow striped tin, although having had many makeovers, revamps and new varieties in its time, is the original king. Batiste have cut the chalkiness over the years to leave us with a fantastic product which freshens hair, leaving it full of life and without oiliness. Spritzed and worked into the roots, this dry shampoo is so effortless to use and gives hair an instant burst of magic.

3. Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Invisible Spray (£17.45)

This dry shampoo is probably less heard of than some of the products on this list, but is one which earns it's place in the top five by courtesy of its effective formula. The super-sleek aerosol packaging and fresh (but subtle) citrus scent goes alongside the, well, invisible, fine powder which quickly absorbs any dirt and grease without weighing hair down. This dry shampoo leaves hair with an incredible shine alongside the squeaky-clean feel; something which is a huge selling point for me, as I often find dry shampoos can have quite a dulling effect on hair. Coming in at just over £17, it is a bit more of an investment than the other heroes on this list though.

4. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo (£14)

This funky-looking can would look great on any dressing table, but it's not just the packaging which evokes a little pick-me-up. Tried and tested in even the toughest hair situations (think post work-out), this dry shampoo truly does lift hair to give it that super clean, bouncy feeling. This is such an incredibly lightweight product which doesn't leave behind any sticky or heavy residue. It's safe to use on coloured hair and doesn't leave behind any white, powdery finish due to it's incredibly light, fine texture. Again, not necessarily the cheapest but definitely one to try out!

5. Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo (£15)

Much loved for it's brightly coloured ranges which are well-known for their use of argan oil, Moroccan Oil's dry shampoo is not one to be underestimated. Unlike the others on this list, this sulfate-free product comes in two tones (light and dark), so it's perfect for coloured hair or if you are particularly worried about any noticeable white marks being left in your hair. It sprays on evenly and certainly leaves your hair feeling the silkiest out of the other four. Hair feels clean, light and sleek without that slightly oily, greasy feeling (which you use dry shampoo to eliminate in the first place).

Have you tried any of these dry shampoos? Which ones are in your top 5?

  1. I usually swear by Batiste, but occasionally a Klorane rep will come into work and give me one of the mini dry shampoos. They're equally good on my hair! Have you tried the Colab one? I've heard good things but most of the hype has been via YouTube, so I'm not sure.

    1. I haven't but really need to try it! I have heard good things from people other than YouTubers, so I think the hype is probably to be believed x
