Review: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms

I seem to spend far too much money on lipsticks. I spend even more time complaining that they either dry out my lips or dissipate after half an hour's wear. Revlon's Colorburst balms have managed to solve both of these beauty problems in one fell swoop. Continuing on from Clinique's chubby stick trend (which pretty much every brand has attached themselves to), these chunky lip crayons from Revlon are one of the few worth keeping a place in your make-up bag.

The Colorburst balms are available in 10 shades, ranging from subtle nudes, bright corals, classic reds and vampish purples. I picked up Shameless, a dark purple shade, and Standout, a bright red. Shameless was something a bit different for me, and while I love the colour, I'm not sure if it's one I would wear regularly. Standout, on the other hand, is incredible and could be work to complete any makeup look.

The colours themselves are very bold, and the swatches you can see on my hand are just as vibrant when on your lips. Having a crayon-style shape makes these balms super easy to apply, and really does aid precision much better than a traditional bullet would. As well as having a vibrant, long-lasting colour, the texture of the Revlon Colorburst balms is to die for. Enriched with a "triple butter complex", these balms are super soft on your lips, and prevent the matte colour from drying out like many other drugstore mattes do. Perfect for winter, then, when your lips are craving that extra bit of hydration and nourishment.

Standout on: It even survived a night out!

With so many shades to choose from within this range, there's certainly a colour for everyone. The colours are amazingly strong, last for ages, feel incredibly soft on your lips and have a subtle peppermint smell. Each usually retails at £7.99, but are down to a fiver each in Superdrug at the moment!

  6. I've not got round to trying these yet. I really want to though! I think I'd probably go for the more neutral, everyday shades, but I think they'd be great for Winter. I'm struggling with my beloved matte lippies at the moment cos my lips are too dry! :( xx
