In general, I am quite boring with my perfumes. I see them as something I would never treat myself to, instead I usually receive a new one at Christmas from a relative. I play it safe with Marc Jacob's 'Daisy' or YSL's 'Black Opium' and rarely experiment with fragrance. Often, I don't know where to go for fresh inspiration outside of what my local Boots perfume counter has to offer and have no idea what kind of notes and ingredients to look for. When L'Occitane got in touch with me, I did a bit of research online and was surprised at the variety of perfumes they offer. The brand, for me, are famous for their moisturisers and skin care, and I hadn't thought of turning to them for my fragrance needs. However, after seeing the range of perfumes online and in-store, they are definitely worth checking out if you're in need of something new to get you out of a fragrance rut!
With fifteen different fragrances coming in a variety of formats to suit your needs, L'Occitane are a dark horse for perfume! From feminine rose fragrances, to uplifting citrus notes and mysterious musks, their collection has something for everyone. As a perfume novice, I thought I'd pop into my local store in Brighton to get a whiff (literally) of the gorgeous items on offer- mainly because I always think you have to smell the scent in person to really get a sense of what it would be like on your skin and can never get a rounded idea of the perfume from online descriptions. I would definitely urge you to do the same if you have L'Occitane store near, as I was thoroughly impressed by their fragrances! Although 'Cherry Blossom' was ever so slightly too sweet for my liking, the others were right up my street, despite all being so different. Terre de Lumiere was a lovely warm, sensual musky scent; Neroli and Orchidee was a light mix of white flowers and fruitiness and my personal favourite Pivoine Flora (the perfume pictured) is a feminine and floral fragrance which is soft and so easy to wear.
As well as the scents themselves, each perfume within the collections have their own story linked with the brand's Provence origins and the packaging has been thoughtfully designed to encapsulate the fragrance contained within. The attention to detail is incredible, and the results are a stunning range of perfumes (both the scent itself and bottle) that instantly found a deserving place amongst my beauty collection. The bottle for Pivoine Flora is, in my opinion, probably one of the simpler designs by L'Occitane, but the pink ombre effect and almost heart-shaped bottle sum up what the delicate, feminine fragrance within is all about. Unlike other perfumes I own (Daisy, I'm looking at you), the scent lingers on your skin all day; you get the initial hit which only settles slightly, leaving you with fragrance you know is there but which isn't overpowering.
If you did need a top up to take you from day to evening, something which makes me love these perfume collections even more is the extension of the ranges. The bottles are too big to warrant carrying around with you in your handbag, so L'Occitane have created purse-sized versions, roll-on perfumes and even a gel to keep the scent topped up as and when you need it. The Pivoine Flora perfume has a roll-on counterpart (which is equally as cute); it is slightly more concentrated than the perfume itself, but when applied to wrists it just gives that extra lift that the scent may need come 5pm. The roll ball format is also super handy for minimising waste of the product. It's the ideal solution for when you go on holiday too and is the perfect size for popping amongst your hand luggage.
With prices starting from £46.00 and the purse-size and roll-on versions costing around £18.00, these are actually quite affordable for perfumes of such high quality (not to mention their looks as well!). Whether it's a little treat for yourself or a gift for a loved one with the festive season peeking round the corner, I would 100% recommend at least popping into store and discovering the L'Occitane fragrance range for yourself- I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
