Afternoon Tea at Stanmer House

In our house, our weekends are largely dominated by reading and essays, so in a bid to liven them up/ actually do something with our time off we sat down and compiled a 'things to do in Brighton' list. Our aim is to choose something off the list each weekend and hopefully prevent our weekends from blurring into one.

Yesterday (Friday), a few of us decided to become posh for the day and book a table for afternoon tea at Stanmer House- a beautiful 18th century manor house surrounded by the Sussex countryside, which luckily was only a short 20-30 minute walk from our university.

Although the Brighton skies did decide to snow on us yet again, we decided to walk there. Needless to say we arrived looking a bit flustered. We were guided to our table in a gorgeous fire-lit room which we ended up having completely to ourselves!

Our food arrived in three tiers of dinky little sandwiches, cakes and scones which were absolutely divine. It didn't look like a lot of food at all but we ended up feeling like we were about to pop and having to waddle to the taxi! The copious amounts of tea we had to drink probably didn't help much either.

Afternoon tea there is usually £12.95, but we ended up paying £14.75 due to our extra tea. At first I thought this was quite expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for; the food is lovely (and filling!) and it's such a cosy place with beautiful surroundings.
