Summer Holidays! Island Hopping In Greece

This time last week, my friends and I touched down in a gloomy Gatwick airport after a 10 day break in sun-drenched Greece. While the humid, stormy weather wasn't the ideal welcome home, our summer holiday had made up for it. A group of 12 of us (all university friends) flew to Athens on the 2nd June, all eagerly awaiting a well-deserved break after final year exams and dissertations. The idea of the holiday was to go island-hopping, with Greece being famous for its plethora of cobble-streeted, sandy, sunny, historically and culturally rich islands. However, we wanted to have enough time to soak in the atmosphere of and explore each island, meaning we only managed to visit two.

Nonetheless, our holiday route took us from Athens to Paros, to Naxos, then finally back to the capital city. Each place was beautiful and truly offered something for everyone. Whether you're a foodie, fan of history, adventure-seeker, or a relax-by-the-beach-all-day type of person, these islands will provide everything you're looking for. As a history nerd, I wanted to do a lot of exploring. We went to the Acropolis (and museum) in Athens, before discovering the Portara (a 2,500 year old marble arch ruin) and the ancient market town in Naxos. Talk about a history student's dream! Anyway, while in total we spent nearly a whole day on ferries, and despite the fact I didn't manage to tan at all (#palegirlproblems), we had a wonderful time, and I would strongly recommend exploring a few Greek islands if you love an adventure! 1 Acropolis, 10 ice-creams, 3 ferries and a million Frappés later, here are some photos from the travels....
